Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering (DSME) completes the fabrication of modules in South Korea for the Tengizchevroil (TCO) Future Growth Project (FGP) Well Pressure Management Project (WPMP) safely and ahead of schedule. In completing the project, DSME celebrates 1,112 days without a Lost Time Incident (LTI) and completed the $2.7b fabrication project a week early.
DSME began its safety journey three and a half years ago. During the plant’s fabrication of 81 modules for TCO FGP – its largest project to date, DSME committed that all 4,600 workers and contractors would go home safely. In partnership with JMJ, DSME created an Incident and Injury-Free™ (IIF™) safety culture, which focused on individual leadership, mutual respect and concern for each person on the job site. It was DSME’s safety leadership and culture that contributed to a new benchmark for historic project performance.
“One of the best strategies was to create a roadmap with Starting Strong, Staying Strong, and Finishing Strong phases. It was absolutely key to our success. These accomplishments were achieved by everyone on the project working as one team with a continuous focus on building a high-performance safety leadership and culture.” said Mr. Jeon, HSE VP DSME.
“JMJ is proud to partner with DSME in their commitment to achieving extraordinary safety performance throughout the organization and the FGP WPMP project,” said Anthony Park, Partner, JMJ. “This level of partnership not only sets a new benchmark for what DSME is capable of achieving, but also is the foundation for their future endeavors. DSME is the model that sets the bar for what is possible across the world’s shipbuilding and offshore engineering industry.”
DSME is one of the “big three” shipbuilders in South Korea. In 2014, it was awarded the fabrication contract worth $2.7 billion from TCO to build modules for production facilities, including well control and oil processing facilities. This is the largest module fabrication project in DSME history.
TCO is a joint venture between Chevron, ExxonMobil, KazMunayGas and LukArco. TCO’s Future Growth Project-Wellhead Pressure Management Project (FGP-WPMP) is the next major expansion of the Tengiz oilfield located in western Kazakhstan. The project was given the go ahead in 2016. FGP-WPMP will increase daily crude oil production at Tengiz by approximately 260,000 barrels per day. First oil is planned for 2022.
